Gramophone Magazine is the only respectable periodical I've found that gives updated reviews and information about the latest in classical music recordings. The "Gramaphone" Guide is issued by the editors of Gramophone.
While I prefer the Penguin I also purchase the Gramophone Guide/5(11). Music and the gramophone and some masterpiece recordings: a collection of historical, biographical and analytical notes, and data of a generally interesting nature, concerning musical works of importance completely recorded for the gramophone.
The fact is that the world of classical music is so large, with so many compositions existing and so many recordings available, that no guide can serve all needs.
